5-Amino-1MQ and NNMT Inhibition: A Metabolic Research Primer

5-Amino-1MQ is not a peptide but a membrane-permeable small molecule with a very specific job: inhibiting nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, or NNMT.

Why NNMT Matters

NNMT consumes nicotinamide — a precursor the cell would otherwise recycle into NAD+ — and burns methyl groups in the process. The enzyme is expressed most heavily in adipose tissue, and elevated NNMT activity appears repeatedly in metabolic dysfunction literature. Inhibiting it, in principle, preserves both NAD+ precursors and methylation capacity.

What Preclinical Work Examines

Published studies focus on adipocyte metabolism: cellular energy expenditure, adipocyte size and lipid handling, and downstream NAD+-dependent signaling. The compound gives laboratories a clean pharmacological handle on a single enzyme node inside a complex metabolic network.

The NAD+ Connection

5-Amino-1MQ research naturally complements direct NAD+ studies and mitochondrial work with MOTS-C โ€” three angles on the same energy-metabolism axis, all in our Anti-Aging and General Health collections.
